Ben Glassen is an advocate for regenerative agriculture and small farm business on Vancouver Island. As the President of the District A Farmers Institute, President of Island Roots Farmers Market, and Director of Growing Opportunities, Glassen actively works to promote and support craft food systems. He is the owner and operator of Glassen Farms on lease land in Nanaimo. He maintains neglected farm land to restore soil health and biodiversity, while producing nutrient-rich and ethical commodities including chicken, turkey, lamb, pork & beef. Additionally, Ben is the visionary behind The Good Place Abattoir, which prioritizes the humane treatment of animals while ensuring local food security with a progressive business model using the provincial Farm Gate Plus Licensing. Ben brings a unique perspective to his work in the agricultural industry as a past mountain athlete, Capilano University student politician with a Bachelors in Outdoor Recreation and Tourism. His dedication to educating people about the impact of their food choices and fostering a sustainable future is evident in all aspects of his life and endeavours.
